HAIGH JUNCTION

OO Scale - British

Haigh junction is a fictitious branch line railway between three towns with the divergence for two of the towns at Haigh Junction. During the 1940,s a steam depot was built to service the locomotives working the nearby coal industry and in the 1960,s the depot was modernised to cater for the diesel locomotive fleet.

When the Beeching cuts took place the station and the two branch lines from Haigh Junction were closed but line to the depot remained open. In early 2000 a nuclear power station was constructed and the need for flask terminal arose and as Haigh Junction was the closest rail head, the terminal was built but as the station was closed, one of the platforms was removed to make way for the Flask Terminal.

Then in 2006 the station was reopened and upgraded for passenger use using the remaining main and bay platforms for a regular schedule of DMU services. Soon after the depot was taken over by Network Rail and upgraded to service the more modern class locos such as class 68/70 with their multiple oils and coolants. The depot also repairs wagons as required and has a contract to service/repair mainline heritage locomotives/stock as needed.

The Layout

This lay out was built purely for fun and to give operators a more interesting layout to play with. It hasseveral servo operated uncouplers to assist in the shunting of wagons to and from the Diesel Fuel Storage, Runaround Loop, Engine Shed and the Flask Terminal areas. Also a two bay platform for regular DMU services.

The layout is served by a 6 road fiddle yard and has 3 electrical power systems, LED Lighting, Megapoints Point and Servo control system and DCC track power. The track is Peco code 75 with Electrofrog points with frog polarity controlled by a micro switch on the point motor. All point blades have been wired to the stock rails and all sections of track between fishplate joiners have DCC dropper wire there by greatly improving electrical reliability and ensuring very smooth running of DCC locomotives.
